Crazy High Water in Ohiopyle

Want to ski powder and run world-class creeks in the span of 2 weeks? Usually that doesn’t fly on the East Coast, but here in Ohiopyle, anything is possible. Between heavy rain and warm temps melting the snowpack, we’ve had some seriously high river levels today. The Lower Yough hovered around 13 feet! There will probably be some epic boating over the next couple of days as rivers and creeks drop to sane levels. Be sure to check back for trip reports, photos, and videos.

Well, no photos or video, but I do have a trip report. Roger Loughney (of WV and iR) and I ran meadow on Tuesday. Levels were medium pushy and lots of fun. Some new wood but nothing too crazy, except for a tree in the high water line at 7-foot falls. If you’re not comfortable boofing the center of the drop, scout this rapid.

We followed it up with a 10′ loop run. Waves (and holes) were HUGE! Nothing like knocking out awesome steep creeking and big water all in a one-hour span!
