Our brewing brothers to the north are making the trip on June 18th to bring us their beverages from the mystic realm. Touting some of the most sought after beers in the market, Voodoo has the kick in the pants beers that the true beer aficionado loves. With nothing under 6.5% ABV they will be showing their muscles within the crowd as they pour from their oak barrel.
The 4 Seasons IPA (8.0%) is a hop lover’s dream. With the bitter hops lingering on your palate you will be dying to get another sample because of the voodoo spell it put onto your tongue.
For the Pillzilla, the Big Keller Pils, 9 different hops are used within the brewing process. This takes the classic pilsner that everyone loves and adds a nice hoppy twist to it. The work put into this beer over the last ten years has payed off for the Voodoo team, because Beer Advocate has rated highest of all Kellerbiers in the world! So at Beer and Gear you will get a taste of a world legend.
As for the other possible beers that might make an appearance with the crew, the fruity Belgian styled Love Child, the White Magik wheat ale, and the malty Wynona’s Big Brown Ale are expected to show face as well.
Check out the Voodoo Brewery website for a complete listing of the brews!

Hailing from Monroeville, Rivertowne Pour House has developed to fill a niche in the Western Pennsylvania craft world. Offering 14-18 different styles throughout the year, there is plenty of variety for all palates. Offering that many beer choices, we are eager to find out what is going to be brought to the festival. Perhaps the Knight Rider Black IPA or the delightfully fruity Pineapple Under the Sea will make an appearance. These are just two examples of the plethora of brews that can be found at the pour house in Monroeville. What can be expected to be here are the flagship brews of the Old Willies IPA, the Babling Blonde, and the Amber Lager.
Some history of the man behind the cask, Andrew Maxwell. He has been pursuing his dream to produce and distribute the finest beers that can accompany any meal or any occasion. After 33 years of jumping from college in central PA to chemistry jobs in Philly, Andrew placed himself down in the Pittsburgh area and opened his own brew pub and now makes his own rules and his own great brews.
Check out the Rivertowne webpage and find the locations! The good news is they have you pretty well covered all across Pittsburgh with 4 locations.
Stop by and say hello to them Saturday June 18th at Beer and Gear in Ohiopyle the best beer fest this side of route 40 ;)
Look who is coming to Beer & Gear June 18, 2011 ……….
“Rock Bottom Brewery in Homestead, PA, part of a national chain of brewery restaurants, has been proudly brewing locally inspired beers for the Pittsburgh market since its founding over 10 years ago. Recently, Rock Bottom has expanded its brewing operations and you are able to order up one of their tasty brews at your local watering hole. The recent increase in barrelage has allowed Rock Bottom to offer additional specialty releases, increasing their seasonal beer portfolio to over 30 individual brands over the course of the year. They have also been ramping up their barrel-aging program with 3 different beers currently aging in various types of oak barrels for eventual blending and release. With at least eight locally brewed beers (often more) and one cask offering always on-tap you are sure to find something to your palate’s liking on any trip to their bar.
Also of note, Rock Bottom is excited to welcome the new extension of the Great Allegheny Passage Trail to Homestead and is excited for the tentative completion by next spring of the trail all the way to downtown Pittsburgh. The brewery, located almost adjacent to the trail’s path in Homestead, should prove to be a welcome respite with delicious, thirst quenching brews, a seasonal patio and a spacious bar with plenty of room for adventurers and bar-flies alike. Rock Bottom has been a proud supporter of the Beer and Gear Fest for the past five years and looks forward to continuing to work with Wilderness Voyageurs for years to come. Please return the favor and ask for an Uppity Jag-Off IPA, Rock Bottom Kolsch or any of their other distributed brands at your local watering hole.”
See You all JUNE 18 2011 in Ohiopyle
Here at WIlderness Voyageurs we are all fired up….Mountain State Brewing will be making their 3rd appearance at Beer & Gear June 18 in Ohiopyle. Check out their story and definitely make it a point to stop in to one of their 3 locations they have sprinkled around the Mountain playground of the West Virginia Highlands.
Since pouring our first beer in September 2005, Mountain State Brewing Co. has grown to become West Virginia’s largest distributing full-scale brewery. As well as pub locations in Thomas, WV , Morgantown, WV & Deep Creek Lake, MD, you can find Mountain State’s brews on tap in numerous select bars and restaurants across West Virginia & Garrett County, MD.
What makes the beer so special? Some say it’s the water. At 3,040ft in elevation, Thomas is the second highest incorporated township in the state of West Virginia. The 7-barrel brewhouse is located at the top of this watershed, giving the ales the purest base possible in the State.
And some say it’s the people. Brothers Brian & Willie use their expert craftsmanship, not just in the recipes of the 4 signature brews, but also in the design and construction of the Brewhouse in Thomas and the Brewpub & Restaurant in Morgantown & Deep Creek Lake. The goal was to create a relaxing and friendly atmosphere for people to enjoy one another, and the finely crafted ales.
So come saddle up on our signature hand-made sawhorses for an evening of fine beer and local merriment!
Almost Heaven Amber Ale: Nut brown in color and lightly hopped with Willamette, this beer is dominated by a pleasing caramel finish that is darn close to heaven.
Cold Trail Ale: An easy drinking American blonde, the grist bill for this beer includes a healthy dose of wheats and oats. Light in body, it is the perfect finish to a day’s activity. Unfiltered.
Seneca Indian Pale Ale: A highly hopped, moderate bodied beer that comes in at 5.2% ABV. Seneca is tuned perfectly to provide the hop explosion that IPA fans seek without the lingering bitterness.
Miner’s Daughter Oatmeal Stout: Coal Black and Creamy Smooth, this beer holds a light tan head and is surprisingly light in body, so it won’t fill you up.
